TERMINOLOGY
WiFi (Wireless Fidelity) is an up-and-coming and ever-more-popular technology used to wirelessly connect computers to networks or ensure high-speed wireless access to the Internet.
An Access Point is a WiFi network radio transmitter and receiver that maintains the connection between the user's radio adapter (WiFi adapter) and the network.
Hotspot is an Internet access network that operates on the basis of the WiFi technology and may be deployed on a certain territory (e.g., in a hotel, airport, cafe, restaurant, or business center). A hotspot can encompass several access points connected to a single network. The user is free to move within the hotspot area.
It is the WiFi network identifier (the network's name) that makes it possible to distinguish between various networks. A network with one identifier as a rule has the same parameters. The identifier of our network is Golden WiFi.
SERVICE PARAMETERS AND CONNECTION QUALITY
The connection speed is up to 54 megabit/s for the 802/11g standard and 11 megabit/s for the 802/11b standard. The data transfer speed may reach up to several megabits per second, which is more than enough to download web pages, check email, and use other Internet resources.
Outside, the operation radius is approximately 100-300 meters. Inside, it depends on the composition of the walls and is usually less than 100 meters.
CONNECTION
Required equipment
It is also required that users register (on the service website: www.goldenwifi.ru).
If your computer carries the WiFi or Intel® Centrino™ logo or the user's manual of your PPC (PDA) or PC says it supports the IEEE 802.11b/g standards, then your device supports the WiFi technology and you do not need any additional devices.
If your computer does not support WiFi, to connect you will need to buy a WiFi adapter and install the software it comes with. A WiFi adapter can be implemented in the form of a PCI, a card that goes into the PCMCIA slot of your laptop (PC Card), or an external device to be connected to the USB port of your computer or the Ethernet port (WLAN-Ethernet-adapter).
Once your operational system is configured, the wireless adapter of your device should find the Golden WiFi wireless network. It occurs automatically if your wireless adapter is on. Most laptops (using Windows XP) will show an icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. You can determine the connection quality and signal strength by looking at the icon (a screen with a red slash over it means that no wireless connection is unavailable).
Yes, you can, provided you have downloaded and installed Golden WiFi Navigator.
Start your browser (navigator), e.g., Microsoft Internet Explorer, and you will be automatically redirected to the start page when you request any URL. If authorization is successful, you will be able to access Internet resources.
Yes, you can use customary payment options and rate plans in both cities.
1. Go to Windows Settings and select the following: PROBLEMS
Possible reasons: - Your WiFi-adapter is not on or defective
If none of the above applies, please call our Customer Support Service at +7 (812) 703-08-77.
If you have just registered, wait for 5-15 minutes. Your authorization data should be available for use after that.
Otherwise, call our Customer Support Service at +7 (495) 363-2111. Be prepared to provide your account number and authorization error code.
ASPECTS OF USE
Windows 2000 and Windows XP determine which of the network interfaces is active and use it automatically. Other operatiingl systems may require that you switch manually. Refer to your operating system manual for more details.
The Golden WiFi network ensures a high speed of connection between your PC or PPC and the Internet even when one access point is simultaneously supporting several users. Often the server that you are connected to determines the speed. Interference can also affect access speed.
Yes, depending on your card. Many WLAN adapters support several user profiles, each of which enables you to connect to various networks. To configure your profiles, please use the software that came with your laptop or PDA.
As a rule, it will not. Disturbances may occur between WiFi and Bluetooth devices because both technologies use frequencies that overlap within the range of 2.4 GHz: 2400-2483.5 MHz. WiFi devices do not interfere with cellular phones, radio phones (except for some rare American models), remote controls, etc.
WiFi has not been identified as hazardous. The capacity of WiFi transmitters does not exceed 100 mW. This is the strength of an access point (the user's adapter is usually less powerful), and it is approximately 10 times less than that of a cellular telephone, which has never been proven to be harmful to human beings.
This standard is not used for client connections because it uses a different frequency range (5.2 GHz). In the Russian Federation, as a rule, the 2.4 GHz range is used. The 802.11a standard is more popular in the US.
